From roof to armor
Find the red jewel in the middle of Daimugen’s green shell. On the turtle it faces upward; on the warrior in the opening pair it faces forward. The same broad surface changes from a roof over the creature into armor across its body.
The gold borders divide the shell into recognizable panels. In the turtle design and original DX photograph below, that wide surface sits low over the four limbs. Compare it with the upright figure: the shell supplies most of the warrior’s body, leaving only a small head above it. Artbook, pp. 084–085; original DX photographs.

Armor becomes a platform
The shell’s third job is carrying the other beasts. In Juko Kiden, the Seven-Star Combination, Daimugen becomes the broad foundation beneath the assembly. The rear DX photograph makes the arrangement especially clear: Ryuseioh stands high above the same green shell, now close to the ground again.
Compare the photograph with the formation drawing. The shell no longer dominates the silhouette as a chest; it gives the taller creatures a surface to stand on. The design panel describes the fictional formation, and the photograph shows the assembled original toys. Artbook, p. 085.

Juko Kiden: Daimugen becomes the foundation. The book describes Won Tiger inside it in the story; the exterior DX view does not show that interior.

The shell holds it together
A turtle, an armored warrior and a stack of mythical beasts could look like three unrelated toys. Daimugen keeps one broad shape recognizable through all of them. Horizontal, the shell shelters; vertical, it armors; beneath the assembly, it supports. The shell is what lets the eye follow the character even when almost everything around it changes.
Further explorationCharacter and product notes
In Gosei Sentai Dairanger, Daimugen first appears as Kameo, a young man whose true identity is the giant turtle. The artbook places Kameo’s introduction in episode 22 and the revelation in episode 31. Its helmet studies show the small gold crest and red visor above the much larger body.
The opening toy is DX Super Kiden Beast Daimugen. The retrospective describes a large toy with a built-in EL unit and distinguishes a separate Super Pla-Dera edition. The book describes Won Tiger inside Daimugen in the fictional formation; the exterior photograph does not demonstrate that interior. Artbook, pp. 084–085.
